Joseph Eugene Franc, 85, of El Cajon went peacefully to be with the Lord he loved, on November 11, 2016 after his battle with cancer.

Joseph was born, followed by his twin brother Eugene, in 1931 in Dunmore, Pennsylvania to Catherine and Stanley Franc. The family moved in 1936 to San Diego where Joe and Gene, brother Robert, sister Kathleen, and brother Paul made their home. Joe grew up in the North Park area and graduated from St. Augustine High School.

In 1947 Joe and his brother Gene joined the National Guard and were later activated into the Army. Being musicians, they were both placed in the 93rd Army Band where they served until 1952.

After the Army, Joe became a movie theatre manager, eventually moving to El Centro where he met his bride to be, Sheila. They married in 1956 and moved back to San Diego.

Joe spent 37 years working at General Dynamics/Convair and enjoyed the jet airplane and space shuttle industry. In 1993 both Joe and Sheila retired and began an RV adventure. They made many good memories traveling and living in their RV until 2008, when they settled in El Cajon.

Joe is survived by his wife of over 60 years, Sheila; daughters Veronica and Sherrill, their husbands Clent and Jim; grandchildren Scott and Angela, step-grandchildren Jamie, Zack, Desiree and Caleb; brother Robert, and many others who knew and loved him.

A memorial service and reception will be held at noon on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Erickson-Anderson Mortuary in La Mesa.

There will also be a burial service at 1 pm on Thursday December 1, 2016 at Miramar National Cemetery.
